Waikiki – Spouting Water.

One of the world’s most popular vacation destinations and the world’s most filmed beaches, it’s hard to believe that Waikiki was once marsh and wetlands! A retreat for Hawaiian royalty in the 1800s, they maintained beach houses along the narrow stretch of beach on Oʻahu known as Waikiki and enjoyed surfing at this spectacular beach.
The ancient sport of surfing was popularized by Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, the father of modern surfing, whose ‘aloha spirit’ brought camaraderie and sportsmanship to the sport of surfing and helped it to grow. Today, Waikiki hosts surf competitions, performances, hula dancing and outrigger canoe races.
