HEATWAVE
The bay window glistened in the bright summer day. Outside, the weather was pleasant – hot, yet with a cool breeze picked up from the Mediterranean that danced between the old buildings along the winding canals. Inside, the heat was almost oppressive, the fire in the furnace burning bright and hot yellow and majestic red, melting the glass as it passed to a liquid state, allowing the glass-master to shape the material.
Rounded in a semi-solid on the metal rod, picking up aventurine glass with threads of gold, and imitation gemstones made of glass, I was awed by the thrill of employing the century-old techniques that I had learned. A sense of history, and the careful, yet liberating and joyous expression of creation infused me. The embodiment of passion.
